Our Journey
Lorha Nakambe Consulting was founded in 2020 with a dual mandate to transform the underfunding of feminist movements and approaches to organising for social change.
As demonstrated by the Association for Women's Rights in Development (AWID), less than 1% of funding allocated to gender equality by private foundations and governments is allocated to feminist movements and Women's Rights Organisations (WROs). The Black Feminist Fund further revealed the extent of institutionalised philanthropy's racial and gendered trust gaps by illuminating that 0.1% - 0.35% of overall global foundation giving was allocated to Black women, girls and trans people across the world.

Lorha Nakambe joins a community of dreamers, activists, scholars and feminist philanthropies committed to creating a just feminist funding ecosystem. We work closely with philanthropic organisations, feminist movements, social justice organisations and other relevant stakeholders to co-create social infrastructures of healing justice, connection, care, and abundant resourcing for intersectional feminist movements.

Our Founder and Executive Dreamer, Iris Nxumalo-De Smidt, is a feminist system innovator who has led strategic grant-making and systems change initiatives over the past decade. Her vision and leadership has supported the development of Lorha Nakambe Consulting into a feminist organisation that provides transformative consulting services within the funding ecosystem.
